Our Services

HVAC Replacement

Whether it’s a small home system or a large commercial chiller, The HVAC Nerd provides expert HVAC service, repair, and installation — using math, measurements, and experience (not hope).

Residential HVAC Replacement

There comes a time when your old Heating & Air Conditioning System just won't cut it anymore. We make sure to properly size & install your new heating & air system to perform the way it was designed. We never take the easy way out, but make sure to do the job the way it should be done...right.

Whole House Fans

Whole House Fans

Whole house fans have come a long way. In the past they sounded like an airplane was landing when the whole house fan was on. Now they don't make much more noise than your return air (the place that you change the filter...if you change the filter...ever). Whole house fans are a great option for reducing energy consumption and keeping the house cool & full of fresh air. A whole house fan pulls fresh air from the outside and forces the air through the attic and out the vents, reducing the attic temperature & making it easier to maintain a comfortable temperature in the home or business. Whole house fans are very reasonable to install & require almost zero maintenance.

Service & Repair

As Heating & Air Superheroes, we always try to fix the issue, at the best possible value to the customer. No one likes to be taken advantage of, so we will give you an honest evaluation and provide a fair & reasonable solution. There's no HVAC problem too big or small for The HVAC Nerd.

Mini-Splits

A Mini Split is a great option for areas in your home that do not get enough heat or air conditioning or for room additions. Mini Splits are ductless, therefore they can go where no central Heat & A/C has gone before. Mini Splits are super high in efficiency and provide both Heat & Cool.

Commercial HVAC Installs

Commercial Building Owners need expertise when it comes to their Heating and Air Conditioning Systems. Many in the industry simply replace parts until it works and/or choose the path of least resistance when it comes to HVAC System Replacement. The HVAC Nerd views each project uniquely and considers what’s best for the Commercial Building, the Owner and it’s intended use. Feel free to contact us for a review of your upcoming project.

Chillers

Commercial Chiller

Chillers are often used in large HVAC applications as well as for maintaining product or liquid temperatures. How do you think those wineries make such a tasty white wine?

Testimonials

Curtis is extremely knowledgeable, always hands on, prompt, honest and reasonably priced. Just had him install a new HVAC attic blower. Other companies charged two to three times more and would make you wait for days, if not weeks, before doing the work. In the meantime you sweat it out. I highly recommend Curtis. Or you could pay more somewhere else and get less.

— Carla S. - Sacramento, CA
Curtis worked on both my AC and heating issues this year. He is super friendly, very professional, and worked with my schedule. I highly recommend Sorber Mechanical for any heating and air conditioning needs.

About The HVAC Nerd

Curtis Sorber

Curtis, his wife, Sarah, and their 8 children…that’s right, I said 8!

The HVAC Nerd was founded by Curtis Sorber — a technician who believes comfort problems are usually solved with better diagnostics, not louder sales pitches.

Curtis went straight into the heating and air conditioning industry after high school, quickly standing out through technical training, hands-on experience, and a relentless curiosity about how HVAC systems actually work (and why they sometimes don’t).

He attended one of the top HVAC technical programs in the country, graduating with honors. From a young age, Curtis was drawn to mechanical systems — taking things apart, rebuilding them, and figuring out what went wrong before putting them back together the right way.

Over time, customers started calling Curtis “the HVAC nerd.” Not as a joke — but because he could explain airflow, efficiency, and system performance in plain language, without shortcuts or upsells.

Today, The HVAC Nerd serves homeowners and businesses throughout Folsom and the Greater Sacramento area with a simple goal: design, repair, and install HVAC systems correctly — so comfort just works.

Inside the Mind of an HVAC Nerd

Yes — there’s a lot going on in there.

Curtis approaches HVAC with a nerd-level understanding of how systems behave, not just how they look on paper. That means smarter diagnostics, better design decisions, and fewer surprises after installation.

When you hire someone who understands the system, you don’t have to wonder if it’ll work — you just get comfortable.
